Baseball to evaluate errors

While on their most recent five game road trip, small mistakes cost the Wolf Pack wins.

Loyola baseball (5-11, 1-2) split a doubleheader with Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. They then went on to win one-out-of-three in a series against Auburn University Montgomery.

In the series against Christian Brothers, the Wolf Pack won the first game 3-1, coming back from a 1-0 deficit thanks to the bat of Carmelo LoSauro. LoSauro drove in two runs on a single in the eighth. The team lost the second game of the series 6-8 due, in part, to a four run third inning by the Bucs who took the lead and never looked back.

Two days later, the team continued their trip and went to Montgomery, Ala. to face the Warhawks, ranked 18th in the NAIA preseason coaches’ poll in a three game series. In the first game, the team started with an early fourth inning 1-0 lead, then went on to lose 4-2 after giving up two unearned runs in the eighth inning. Unearned runs, continued for Auburn as six were given up by Loyola in a 9-17 loss. Despite going down three runs the Wolf Pack was able to pull out an 8-7 victory in the final game of the weekend series.

“We really should have won two more games. We’re still learning how to not help the other team. How to not give them opportunities. We’re still making a crucial error, or a crucial walk or a crucial hit batter,” coach Doug Faust said.

With one win over the Warhawks, the Pack now sits in the middle of the Southern States Athletic Conference in sixth place.

This weekend, the team looks to improve their conference standing position in a three game series against conference opponent William Carey University.
