SGA executive staff members discuss the freshmen election process to interested candidates. The Hub was the meeting location.

Student Government Association office space has moved from across the hall from the Office of Co-Curricular programs to The Hub, or the commuter lounge, located in the basement of the Danna Student Center.

Jasmine Barnes, SGA president and mass communication senior, said student government executive staff members will now work, convene for meetings and attend posted office hours in this location.

Barnes said she believes the move will enhance the organization’s communication with students and other organizations.

“I believe that working in the The Hub, a common place of interest for student organizations and commuters, is a great way to engage in conversations with constituents and strengthen that relationship,” Barnes said.

The organization’s previous offices will be used as storage space and conference room for the organization as well as other student organizations, according to Blake Corley, international business junior and executive vice president of student government.

“If student organizations need to have private meetings that they can’t have in The Hub because it’s confidential information, they can feel free to use that,” Barnes said.

Commuter students will still have access to the commuter lounge, Barnes said.

“The refrigerator, microwave as well as an addition of a water cooler are now in the front of the The Hub to enhance the feeling of a true commuter lounge,” Barnes said.

Other student organizations will also be in The Hub, along with student government, according to Barnes and Corley.

Student organizations may apply for a space in The Hub by completing an application located on SGA’s OrgSync profile or its webpage.

A committee of SGA members will determine the allocation of the space upon completion of application.Courtney Williams, SGA adviser, said that he believes that the organization being among other student organizations is a beneficial move.

“I think that is going to be fantastic for SGA to be there with the other student organizations. I think that it just promotes that spirit of community,” Williams said.

Williams said he thinks the new location will be more convenient for students and help strengthen the organization’s accessibility among students.

“Students don’t have to go by their office and knock on the door to see if they’re in there, but now they’re in the same space as you,” Williams said.”It’s your Loyola, it’s your SGA, so you have direct access to them.”
