At 1:28 p.m. a fire alarm went off in Monroe Hall. Though initially the cause was unknown it was suspected that dust from the construction was the likely cause.
NOFD arrived on the scene promptly at 1:30 p.m. and immediately entered the building to do a sweep for any smoke or fire in the building.
Various construction workers reiterated the assumption that dust due to the Monroe Hall construction was the cause.
NOFD exited the building and left Loyola’s campus at 1:58 p.m., though Monroe Hall remained closed to students and faculty.
LUPD officials confirmed that the alarm was triggered by dust caused by construction on the 7th floor of Monroe Hall.
Monroe Hall is now reopened and classes are resuming as normal.
