Loyola history students, along with assistant professor Justin Nystrom, Ph.D., will be presenting their work highlighting lesser-known history of the Gulf Coast at the Southern Labor Studies Association annual meeting.
Their studies follow longshoremen, who worked the ports along the Gulf Coast. Students partnered with the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 3000 to study the workers who loaded and unloaded cargo at the ports in the days before automation. Throughout the semester, students did not write term papers, but rather interviewed primary sources on camera. The meeting is on March 7.
