A new city ordinance will now address various animal cruelty issues in New Orleans.
District “A” councilmember Susan G. Guidry proposed to change the City Code on the care of domestic and feral animals.
“I am proud to author this ordinance, which is the product of many months of collaboration and discussions with numerous interested stakeholders,” Guidry said.
The new ordinance will make alterations to the criteria of designating dogs as a danger. Designating dogs as potentially dangerous based on their breed will be prohibited. There will also be an established criteria for adopting dogs that are seized in dogfighting situations.
