The Maroon

Brief: Alumni TV host in the spotlight

Michael Smith, a former member of the Loyola Wolf Pack as well as an editor for the Maroon, was part of a verbal altercation with an NFL defensive end and his co-host. The episode led to the ex-player being dropped by the network. Hugh Douglas, known for his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, instigated an incident with Smith on Aug. 2 at an Orlando party.

Clearly intoxicated, Douglas reportedly threatened Smith several times when he refused to assist Douglas onto the DJ stage. An ESPN representative spoke to Douglas immediately following the scene and escorted him out of the club.

Douglas and Smith have been known to bump heads on their shows, “Numbers Never Lie,” generally supporting contradicting ideas. Even on air, Douglas is known for loose lips that sometimes stray too close to inappropriate. For now, the show is still running and Smith is still reporting.
