Retirements and vacancies have sparked a restructure in the academic affairs department.
The Rev. Kevin Wildes, S.J., announced Roberta Kaskel as interim vice president of enrollment in an enrollment update addressed to members of the Loyola community on June 7, 2013, following the resignation of Sal Liberto, previous vice president of enrollment management.
Kaskel brings experience with her to her new position, according to a letter from Wildes.
“Her experience in enrollment management includes her tenure at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland as a senior member of the enrollment management team and director of student administrative services, a one-stop financial aid, bursar and student records office,” Wildes said in a letter.
At a university senate meeting on Aug. 15, Marc Manganaro, provost and vice president of academic affairs, said Liberto had projected that the Loyola community could lower the rate that students were discounted, and still bring in a class of 850 students.
“Sal Liberto, the person that assured us it would happen, is no longer with us, ” Manganaro said at a university senate meeting on Aug. 15.
Though Liberto, has departed from Loyola, his outlook on the community remains positive.
“I love Loyola, especially its students,” Liberto said.
Thomas Spence was appointed vice provost for institutional effectiveness, assessment and student success.
After the retirement of Lydia Voigt from the position of senior vice-provost of academic affairs, Spence said, his position was recently created and focuses on students.
Melanie McKay holds the position of vice provost of faculty affairs.
In addition to the other changes to the department, Liz Rainey, director of retention and student success, is temporarily reporting to Spence.
Carrie Glass was appointed director financial aid, succeeding Cathy Simoneaux.
Glass said her plans include integrating technology and making major changes to the department.
Glass said as one of her goals is to “redesign the entire financial aid process.”
