A water advisory was issued for the East Bank of Orleans Parish on Monday, Oct. 8. A city press release said that the water plant suffered a momentary power loss at 8:30 a.m., lowering water pressure levels and possibly contaminating the water supply.

In a press release, sewerage and water board Executive Director Marcia St. Martin said they issued the advisory “with an abundance of caution to ensure their [customers’] health and safety.”

On campus, Sodexo responded to the advisory with several measures. Ron Guillory, Sodexo’s district manager, interviewed on Monday during the advisory, said that Sodexo’s employees were doing their best to keep the Loyola community safe. This included eliminating access to any water supply where a student couldn’t boil it, such as a water fountain or soda fountain.

The Orleans Room used all disposable utensils and did not have any drink machines open. Jazzman’s café on the Broadway campus and the Smoothie King in

the Danna Center closed during the advisory.

Residential Life distributed water bottles in the dorm.

On Tulane, Freshens was just serving ice cream and Einstein Bros. Bagels was not serving freshly brewed coffee.

A statement from the New Orleans Department of Health said that the boil water advisory was lifted Tuesday afternoon and all water should be safe to drink.
