The NCAA Tournament isn’t the only show in town. While two teams prepare for the Southeast Region’s Elite Eight matchup held in the New Orleans Arena tomorrow evening, Loyola intramural basketball teams are preparing for tournament games of their own.
The NCAA Tournament has teams like Duke, Ohio State and Kansas that are considered favorites to cut down the nets in Houston; however, the Loyola intramural basketball tournament does not have a favorite due to the vast parity in the league this year.
“There are two teams at 7-1 and three teams at 6-2. Hung Jury and Phi Psi are both 7-1, so they will have the top two seeds going into the eight-team playoff bracket,” said Zach Bracey, Assistant Director of Wellness.
Though no team stands out, Brandon Parham, an Athletics and Wellness employee and member of Bad Apples, drew heavy praise from Bracey for the way he handles his team and for the way he helps coordinate all intramural sports at Loyola. “He dedicates many hours to the intramural program and helps me out tremendously. He is very passionate about intramurals and wants the program to succeed,” Bracey said.
Whatever team wins this year’s intramural basketball tournament will have the chance to compete in this year’s state tournament held at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
