Heather Malveaux said Ignacio Volunteers has helped pave her life path and bring her back to Loyola as she became the new coordinator of the Ignacio Volunteer program.
Malveaux, A ’07, was a senior at Loyola when she attended the first hosted Jamaica Ignacio Volunteers program.
“I’m so excited about working with this program and all it has to offer. This is a great opportunity to give students back the experience I had,” Malveaux said.
In addition to coordinating the Ignacio Volunteer program, Malveaux has other responsibilities. She is also in charge of Loyola Week, which ran from Nov. 4 to Nov. 8 this year.
Ted Dziak, vice president for mission and ministry, said, he has been working closely with Malveaux on the Ignacio Volunteers program.
“We’re very happy to be able to have someone with her Ignacio Volunteers background, impressive academics and talents, and familiarity with New Orleans on our staff,” he said.
Malveaux returned to the program as a staff member in the summer of 2009 and the winter of 2011.
Jordan Peota, music education junior, said Malveaux is a great addition to Loyola.
Malveaux said she feels “like it’s coming home in a way.”
“I’ve come full circle with the Ignacio Volunteers program, and I’m so excited to be a large part of a program that changed my life immensely,” she said.
