New Orleans has issued a boil water advisory for the following areas:
S. Claiborne Ave. from Calhoun St. to Robert St.
Robert St. from S. Claiborne Ave. to River
Mississippi River from Robert St. to Exposition Blvd
Exposition Blvd. from River to St. Charles Ave.
These parameters include Loyola, so students on campus are advised to use bottled water or boiled tap water to drink, cook, clean food, and brush teeth until further notice, according to an email sent by Todd Warren, director of university police and emergency management.
The advisory comes after a water main break on Upperline St. and S. Claiborne Ave, which caused low water pressure.
Warren provided instructions for boiling water in his email:
Boil water for one full minute in a clean container. The one-minute boil time begins after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (If there is a flat taste, it can be eliminated by shaking the water in a bottle or pouring it from one container to another.)
Fresh water will be available in the dining hall, and there is water supply available to students in the residence halls, Warren said in the email.
Classes are scheduled to proceed as normal, he said, but instructs students to look out for updates.
Warren added that the Loyola community will be notified when the advisory is lifted.
