New volleyball head coach Margot Frederick made her debut with the Wolf Pack, (2-7) this semester and set goals for the season.
Margot Frederick, Loyola’s new volleyball head coach, has made her debut with her team and has already set more goals for the season.
“Dr. Giorlando and Coach Kennedy allowed me to meet a lot of people and to get a good idea of what Loyola values. I spent about 10 minutes with Dr. Petty and immediately knew she was someone I wanted to work with, she inspires me,” she said.
Frederick said she is excited to join the Wolf Pack.
“I chose Loyola because I felt that the committee saw my strengths. I felt I fit here. I wanted to be in a city that I could enjoy. I wanted the chance to win immediately and I wanted to coach very bright young women,” Frederick said.
Michael Giorlando, director of athletics and wellness and head men’s basketball coach, said Frederick brings something to the department that’s aligned with its mission.
“Coach Frederick brings a commitment to leading a top flight intercollegiate athletic volleyball program that is in alignment with the university and the athletic department’s mission,” Giorlando said.
The hiring of Frederick came when former coach, Tommy Harold, accepted a new position.
“After a successful ten-year-run at Loyola, Coach Harold accepted a position as the head volleyball coach at Nicholls State University of the Southland Conference. We wish him success in his new position,” Giorlando said.
Giorlando expects Frederick to have high standards for the team and the season.
“Our expectations for Coach Frederick are to lead a group of women who are passionate about the game of volleyball, teach them to be successful on and off the court and to recruit young women who would be a great fit at Loyola,” he said. “Coach Frederick has high standards for the program and I know she expects her squad to live up those standards on a daily basis.”
“I expect this team to practice hard every day, be mentally ready to compete in every match and in the conference tournament, and constantly strive and meet the standards and goals set by Coach Frederick,” said Giorlando.
Senior outside hitter and marketing senior Shelby Plant said Fredrick will help bring the team a new focus.
“She definitely brings pride and definitely brings discipline,” Plant said. “We couldn’t be more excited about a new start.”
