Campaign strives for faith in the future

The Faith in the Future fundraising campaign has raised $37 million toward its working goal of $100 million.

The Rev. Peter S. Rogers, S.J., associate professor of languages and cultures, said the title chosen for the campaign is important because one way Loyola is set apart is through the religious-centered institution.

“Loyola University is a Jesuit catholic university and its purpose is not to be a school of catechism but it is founded upon the faith,” Rogers said.

Bill Bishop, vice president of institutional advancement, said the campaign is in the leadership phase, and it will continue to go through the decision-making process before publicizing the details of the campaign.

The leadership phase means the campaign is gathering information, talking to donors and making preparations on how to present the information to the public.

Everyone in the university community will benefit from the Faith in the Future campaign and the city of New Orleans, Bishop said.

Although the reach will be throughout the community, the main focus of Faith in the Future Campaign is to affect Loyola students, Bishop said.

“When you think of the title, the faith we have in the future is you [students]. That’s the center piece,” Bishop said.

Two initial donors that have contributed to the Faith in the Future Campaign include the The Patrick F. Taylor Foundation and Tom Benson, New Orleans businessman, according to the Office of Public Affairs.

Bishop said he believes the success of the campaign will be substantial.

“Oh, it will be successful. It will be successful,” Bishop said.
