    Baseball coach resigns

Loyola baseball coach Gee Cassard has resigned after five seasons at the helm of the Wolfpack.

After his first year at Loyola serving as the baseball team’s assistant coach in 2007, Cassard was hired as the head coach. The ‘Pack compiled an 82-171 record under Cassard after he became head coach in 2008.

“Coach Cassard was an integral part of our department for six years, the last five as our head baseball coach,” said Associate Athletic Director Brett Simpson. “He led our baseball team to the GCAC Tournament finals in 2010 and was instrumental in our move to the SSAC.”

Cassard resigned July 31 to pursue other coaching opportunities and has since accepted the position of Director of Baseball Operations at Nicholls State University, according to Simpson.

“We are currently conducting a national search for our next baseball coach,” said Simpson.

Director of Athletics and Wellness Michael Giorlando announced the university started a search for a new baseball coach immediately after Cassard stepped down.
