The top-seeded Loyola women’s basketball team falls versus Mobile in the semifinals of the SSAC tournament, 64-59.
The loss comes after the Loyola squad posted a win over Middle-Georgia State on the first day of tournament play.
The team dominated Middle-Georgia, winning 91-79.
Senior Meghan Temple posted a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman Paige Franckiewicz led the team in scoring with 18 points. Freshman Kalia Anthony, sophomore Megan Worry, and senior Jackie Anderson each put up 10 points for the win.
The win put the squad in the semifinals versus the University of Mobile.
Loyola fought hard but could not keep up with Mobile, losing a close match up 59-65.
Anthony led the team in points of the bench with 16. Junior Zoie Miller also came off the bench with 15 points and 4 assists. Temple finished with 16 rebounds and 3 blocks.
The women’s team was the top seed in the tournament and was ranked No. 23 in the NAIA standings. The team posted a regular season record of 25-5 in head coach Kellie Kennedy’s ninth season at the helm.
After winning the conference title, the team received an automatic bid to the NAIA tournament and the women will wait to see who their opponent will be in the opening round in Billings, Montana.
