When I started at Loyola as a spring transfer student, I wanted to get involved, meet people, and find my place on campus. I always had an interest in Greek life but no one in my family was a part of a panhellenic organization so I was a little unsure. I didn’t go through formal recruitment. Instead, I joined through Continuous Open Bidding. COB is basically a more relaxed way of sorority recruitment. Through that process is how I found Delta Gamma, and honestly, it’s been one of the best parts of my college experience.
Here are my top 5 reasons I decided to go Greek
- Finding a Community
College can feel overwhelming and lonely at times, but joining Delta Gamma gave me a group of people who had my back. From study seshes to side quest adventures, I always feel like I have things to do and a community to support me.
- Values and Service
What really drew me to Delta Gamma was how much they live out their motto, Do Good. From the start, I could see that service wasn’t just something they talked about. Their commitment to “Service for Sight” especially stood out to me. I loved that the women in Delta Gamma were passionate about helping others and using their time in college to make a real impact. From raising funds and awareness to the visually impaired, I love all the work that we do for this cause. Being part of a group that values kindness, giving back, and lifting each other up made me feel like I was right where I belonged.
- Leadership Opportunities
Joining a sorority is such a good way to step into leadership because there are tons of different roles you can take on. You could help run the chapter as president or vice president, plan fun events as social chair, organize fundraisers as philanthropy chair, guide new members, or even run the Instagram and handle PR. No matter what you’re into, there’s a spot where you can take on responsibility, learn new skills, and make an impact—all while being surrounded by your sisters who are cheering you on. It’s an easy way to grow as a leader without feeling like you’re doing it alone.
- Campus Life & Connections
Being in Delta Gamma has made campus feel smaller and more connected. From supporting our sisters at their events outside of Delta Gamma to going to our social or formal events, I always feel like I’m part of something bigger. Plus, it’s not just on campus; Delta Gamma has an amazing alumni network. Members of our chapter have received jobs and internships due to connections from Delta Gamma. It makes me feel like these friendships and connections really go beyond just our time in school.
5.Friendships
Honestly, the best part of DG is the friends I’ve made. We are always there for each other and it’s always great to see a familiar face on campus. It’s more than just having people to sit with in class or go explore the city with, it’s late-night talks, laughing over nothing, and always having someone to lean on when you need it. You’re surrounded by sisters who get you, support you, and make everyday things way more fun.
Some may say that there’s no point in being in a sorority at a small school like Loyola but I completely disagree. Being in a sorority has made my college experience immensely better and I would highly encourage anyone thinking about joining greek life to look around for the Panhellenic posters around school and follow the QR Code.
